A grassroots politician and one of the prominent faces of the City Boy Movement in Ikorodu Division, QS. Abdulazeez Adekunle Awesu, has revealed that the good qualities of Prince Oluwatoyin Gafaar Bolowotan, the former Director General, Lagos State Sports Commission, made him jettison his aspiration for the seat.
Awesu spoke at the interactive session with the youth by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ikorodu Constituency I, Prince Oluwatoyin Gafaar Bolowotan, tagged, “Breakfast with Bolowotan”, held last Saturday with the theme, “Beyond the Ballot: Co – Creating Ikorodu Constituency 1”.
He commended the initiative which allows the representatives of youths, which are critical stakeholders to interface with the Lagos Assembly candidate.
“When I see events like this happening, especially in Ikorodu, I feel very encouraged. Apart from attending political activities and engagements, I have not really had the opportunity to engage first-hand with young people and students like this. So, I am really glad and happy to be here.”
“I have listened to a couple of things that were said here today, and I picked one or two things from them. First, is the importance of encouraging the younger generation that is coming up.
“Honestly, when I see people put events and activities like this together, if you truly understand what it takes to organise them, irrespective of how small or big they may be, you will know that it is not easy.
“So, seeing every one of us come together to present our ideas to Honourable Bolowotan here is something I really commend and appreciate,” Awesu submitted.
He stated further on the interactive session with Bolowotan by the youth constituency:
“A lot of people here know me, basically from posters and public appearances. Not everyone has had the opportunity to engage with me one-on-one.
“It was through this process that I got to meet Honourable Bolowotan Before then, I have heard a lot about him.”
Reflecting on his aspiration and how he relinquished it for Bolowotan, Awesu, said,
“Talking about the last primary election that was concluded, I also had plans to contest for the House of Assembly, but when Honourable (Bolowotan) approached me, I said to myself, ‘you know what?’ I have heard so much about you, and your qualities and I believe that there is a lot we can do together.”
“It did not take me long to decide that it would be worthwhile working with him because everywhere you go, you hear about the good work that he has done.
“I really commend you for that, sir, and I am confident that, considering the fact that this office is not an executive one but a legislative one, he will do more than many people expect of him,” Awesu said while assessing Bolowotan.
